Special Effects Usually used to refer to effects done during filming such as pyrotechnics/ rain/ wind/ flying rigs etc etc etc
Visual Effects Usually used to refer to Computer enhanced imagery which is added in post production
Compositing
The digital manipulated combination of at least two source images to produce an integrated result
We also started learning the basics of after effects and did some limited experimentation.
My Idea and Tests I Want To Do:
I've decided to do something retro/vintage for my composition project, in a similar way to Kung Fury (2015) - by creating a set aesthetic I can ensure that it will work no matter how poorly the composition itself turns out because it will always seem like a stylistic decision.
Potential Aesthetics:
- Georges Méliès
- Caligari
- Harryhausen
I am going to have to do tests for each of these and see which style I can most easily emulate, it's not taking the easy route out, I like each aesthetic equally and feel like any could work - keeping my own limitations in mind is important as I want to produce the best film that I can.
I have decided to do some tests this weekend and see which aesthetic works best for me, at that stage I will probably look into crafting a story to go along with whatever I end up choosing.
